Don't Over Wash Your Hair

Although we manufacture shampoo here at Arganatural and would love everyone to use more of it, we also care about the health of your hair which is why you will see us urging you not to over wash your hair.

We know that many of you feel that you must wash your hair often so that it won’t get “greasy,” but the fact of the matter is your hair will get greasier the more you wash it. Since shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils, your scalp will produce more oil to compensate for the loss. This cycle of washing and oil production can only be broken by putting up with some uncomfortable levels of oiliness at first until an equilibrium is reached.

Here we’ll discuss ways to wean yourself off the shampoo bottle to achieve healthier, more manageable hair.

Embrace the Oil

Even if the feel of dry, freshly washed hair is what you’re used to, it’s not what nature intended. Learn to appreciate the feeling of slightly oily hair that easy to style, smooth, frizz-free, and shiny.

Use Less Shampoo

When it comes to properly washing your hair, less is more. When washing your hair use less shampoo so your hair doesn’t get too clean and forget the repeat wash. If you’re sweaty after a workout, consider doing a water-only rinse instead.

Brush and Massage

Once or twice a day, give yourself a scalp massage to distribute the oil from the scalp down the hair shaft. You can use your fingertips or a hairbrush.

Don’t Touch!

Unless you’re styling your hair, try to keep your hands off your hair. Reason being the oil on your fingers will make hair appear lackluster and limp the more you touch it.

Work With It

One of the ways to wean yourself off frequent shampooing and accepting greasiness is to figure out ways to wear your hair. Use ponytails, buns, headbands, etc. to stretch the time between washes. Sometimes straightening hair a day or so after washing helps it go longer between washes as well.

Wash When You Need It

Instead of washing based on a schedule, we urge you to wash only when you need to. For instance, see if you can push your wash out from 6 to 10 days. You may be surprised at the results and your hair won’t be any greasier.
