The Right Hair Brush for Your Hair Type

When caring for your hair, it’s important to take note of everything you’re doing to it, right down to the shampoo or even the hair brush you use.  Since everyone has different hair types, the way you brush your hair will be different too.  The way someone with curly hair brushes their hair is very different from someone with straight hair and vice versa.  Not only is the technique different, the type of brush used is also different and the type of hair styling products.

Here we will demystify the type of brush, products (mainly leave-in conditioners), and techniques you should be using to brush your particular hair type.

Fine, Thin Hair

If you have fine, thin hair the best brush to use is a soft boar-bristle brush.  When brushing your hair, we recommend using a leave-in conditioner that will plump hair strands and give you thicker, fuller, and healthier hair like Arganatural Thickening Biotin Leave-In Conditioner.

When brushing fine hair, it’s best to handle it with extra care.  We suggest you brush your hair with your boar bristle brush morning and night.  Make sure to start from the bottom of your hair and work your way up to ensure you won’t get tangles or knots in your hair.

Thick Wavy or Straight Hair

If you have thick wavy or straight hair, the best brush to use is a paddle brush because of its wide spaced pins that are able to easily work their way through your hair.

Again, when brushing your hair, we recommend brushing from the bottom and working your way up to ensure your hair won’t get tangled or knotted up.  We also recommend using a moisturizing leave-in conditioner, like Arganatural Nourishing Argan Oil Leave-In, to ensure hair stays soft and is easy to style.

Curly Hair

If you have curly hair, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush.  These styling tools are made for unknotting tangled hair, so if you’re prone to your hair getting tangled these tools are a good idea to have.

When brushing curly hair, avoid brushing when it’s dry.  Doing this will turn your curly into a giant puffball!  Unless a pouffy style is what you’re looking for, it’s best to brush while your hair is wet and use a leave-in conditioner like Arganatural Smoothing Keratin Leave-In to smooth and lock out frizz.
